Industrial patrimony

Gérardmer also has a rich industrial patrimony which has been forged through time in this place which was initially just a small mountain village ! Textile and timber industries have been the two assets of this industrial patrimony.

On the timber trail ...

The timber industry, fruit of our ancestors' know-how, takes many forms in Gérardmer and the Lake Valley. Sawmills, chalet consruction, creators of toys and decorative objects, clogmakers, carvers…without forgetting traditional festivals which evoke the former work in the Vosges forest.

Follow the tread of history

Gérardmer has become the « temple » of haute couture in the line of household linen but has managed to preserve traditional skills combined with the latest technology.

The stronghold of the famous firm selling by correspondance, Linvosges, and the home of of many weaving mills, such as Jacquard Français, François Hans or Garnier-Thiébaut which are famous now world wide! Treat yourself to a stroll around the town and visit the many factory shops. Tablecloths, tea towels, towels, sheets, quilts ….household linen is to be found in all shapes and colours.
